"I
currently paint for an international organization
that reproduces artwork created by people with
disabilities called the Mouth and Foot Artists
Incorporated (MFPA). World-wide sales of its cards,
calendars, wallpaper and other gifts come from more
than 600 contributing disabled artists in 67
countries, including almost 50 in the United
States.
MFPA was founded in 1956 by a German artist to encourage artists without the use of their hands to become more self-sufficient. Polio had destroyed the use of his arms so he learned how to paint by mouth. He then gathered artists with similar disabilities and formed the corporation so that these artists could compete with their able-bodied peers. Mouth and Foot Artists is entirely owned by seriously disabled members of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. Through this remarkable group, my artwork has been seen in exhibitions around the world."
